The following data are case studies of 70 active shooter events which occurred between 1999-2016. Criteria determination was that the incident took place inside or on the immediate premises of a faith-based facility and at least one person was injured or killed.
The Department of Homeland Security and the FBI believe faith-based organizations will be the next big targets. Though we know they have been targeted for some time, until the shooting in Charleston in 2015, the incidents failed to meet the minimum victim requirement for the FBI to consider them an Active Shooter event.
